7) I agree with Senator Ted Kennedy that raising minimum wage would be beneficial to society. People living on current minimum wage are constantly worrying about money and finances and can not even afford health insurance. In such an advanced country as America, it is a shame that we treat citizens so poorly. The opposing side, big businesses, who do not support raising minimum wage are only thinking about themselves because they make a higher profit with a lower minimum wage.
3) I think race was a large factor in helping Alex and Morgan because white people tend not to be discriminated in America. If Alex and Morgan were black or hispanic they would have a harder time because there are negative stereotypes associated with these races. If they had children they would have spent more based on the fact they had children for a few days increased their spendings. Also, health insurance and school, necessities that come with children, cost a lot and the children would have to start working very young to support the family.
I agree with question 3 completely. I think that being white did help Morgan and Alex in finding a job and getting an apartment. The stereotypes that people of color face are things that can affect their credibility and creates a bias against them because of pre made assumptions. They didn't have children, and this helped them to get an apartment and that would've also been something that hiked up the price of their living. -Lauryn Marriott

ReplyDeleteI agree with your answers for both questions, especially question 7. Your point about America being an advanced country and how ridiculous the conditions some people are living in is a very good one. Senator Ted Kennedy is completely right that raising minimum wage would help families that are currently suffering due to minimum wage.
