7. I agree with Senator Ted Kennedy that we need to raise the minimum wage, the cost of living has gone up for Americans since the last time they raised the minimum wage, therefore the minimum wage should increase as well. The opposing side of the argument is that big businesses will have to fire people if wages go up, but this is false. The big businesses could not lay people off if the minimum wage went up, but they higher up people would lose a tiny portion of their gargantuan fortune.
8. The working poor are those who work hard, but because they receive minimum wage they have trouble paying their bills and rent. Working poor can work more than 40 hours a week and still not be able to afford rent, groceries, electric bills, etc. This is an extremely dangerous way to live because if there is a medical emergency, they can’t afford bills. Recently, because the federal minimum wage hasn’t been increasing but the cost of living has, there are more and more “working poor” in America.

I agree with Graham's response, as the cost of living goes up, so should the minimum wage. As it's done in most states in the US today the minimum wage should go up in a fixed amount every certain number years. Also big business don't want the minimum wage to be raised because it means less money in their own pockets which is unfair because most of the people at the top are already millionaires. The working poor are the people who work some of the longest hours out of any working class and they make just enough to get by. When unexpected events occur for these people they often come up short for paying off these payments.

I agree that with this low minimum wage, it is almost impossible to make a living. There are a lot of working poor that need help, and I think that Ted Kennedy's plan to increase minimum wage would be good for Americans and the economy.
