Budgeting played an important role in the survival of Alex and Morgan on 30 days of minimum wage. Although they did not succeed in their goal, the effort put forth to spend only a certain amount of money out of pocket was always there. Spending little to nothing on items that both Alex and Morgan were used to spending money on, proved to be a challenge. Without budgeting and keeping tabs on each other the two wouldn't have survived a week on minimum wage. Conserved as much money as they could was key in paying off expenses suchas: paying off the rent, paying for the electricity of the room, paying the hospital bills for both Alex and Morgan, who both took trips to the ER, and for food. Some of these expenses were unexpected, and weren't things Alex and Morgan intended to pay off when they first started this project. Without keeping tabs on their daily responses the two would've not been able to come even close to meeting the payments. Another important reason budgeting was so important, was because since they lived on minimum wage they could not fill the requirements to own a credit card. This proved to be problematic because with the little cash they had in their make-shift bank at home, that money was constantly being broken into simply because it was needed immediately.
12. In this film we see many cases of Alex and Morgan arguing over financial decisions. When they make so little money for working so hard it's hard not to take your frustrations and your emotions out on your partner. When your opinions on financing with such little money oppose those of your partner, conflict starts and tensions rise. Both Alex and Morgan worked very hard over the 30 days and spent up to 18 hours away from the house working to get by, and they still couldn't do it. They ate the same meal every night, didn't have a place to sit to eat it for a while, there house was infested with mice, both were constantly tired, and both needed medical attention at some point in the month. All these factors lead to the moods both Alex and Morgan had, and the fights they had. Many times it wasn't that one person was particularly angry at the other but they were just frustrated and maybe shocked that people are expected to live like this. Morgan maybe a comment that some people don't just have to do this for a month but for their whole lives and most of the time these people aren't just supporting themselves but their families too.
