I think that when Morgan and Alex went to The Free Store, Alex got really emotional because of two main reasons. The first reason is that I think she finally understood the situation she was in and how it affects people in their daily life, and the second reason is I think that she was happy that there was something like The Free Store that exists for people to have access to when they need it. Even though the experiences Alex and Morgan were going through were only temporary, I think it had a bigger affect on them than they thought it would. When Alex began to cry it was probably the result of such a mix of emotions between sorrow and appreciation. She was acknowledging the bad, the hard times they were experiencing as a result of a minimum wage job, but she was also acknowledging the good in the situation, which was that there are people that are willing to help those in need. Everyday Alex has the privilege to go about her life and not have to think about the hardship that people go through. This moment is particularly hard for Alex because she came to the realization of how the other half lives. Not everyone has what Alex has and I think she knew that going in, but not to the extent that it's really true. People work so hard every day and it's still not enough for them to even live a comfortable live.

I think that Alex and Morgan did a fairly good job of budgeting their money for the 30 day period. The first thing they did was find out how much money they had to start out with, and then going from there they made sure to keep track of every penny that they spent. In the first couple days of their 30 day period they both managed to get a job which was good and from day one they were thinking of ways to save money like walking to work instead of spending 75 cents a day to take the bus. Not only did they have to manage their money, but they had to sort out their wants and needs which plays a big factor in saving. Before they started this experiment, Alex and Morgan could go out and buy what they wanted when they wanted it, but they realized that wasn't the case anymore and they both had to consciously be aware of that for the 30 day period. Thinking strategically was the only way that Alex and Morgan could survive the month. When both Alex and Morgan needed to see a doctor they didn't instantly go to the hospital they thought it out. Morgan was thinking of two things in this situation, first he didn't want to miss a day of work because that's valuable money coming in, and second he knew that a hospital bill would be a lot of money because they didn't have insurance. They budgeted for the things they needed over the 30 day period, but they had no money left over to do anything for themselves like have some fun. Living their life on minimum wage caused them stress and it wasn't ideal but they figured things out day by day. Overall, even though Alex and Morgan may have been in debt and gone through rough spots throughout the month, they did a good job being conscious of their money and budgeting it.
Ben Good's Comment:
You are very perceptive, noticing that Alex's deep feelings of being unsafe, and being uncomfortable manifested as her crying in the Free store. It is very easy to say that she was crying because she was happy or sad, but realizing that human emotion is often volatile and unpredictable is a valuable observation.
