Living for 30 days on Minimum Wage- Katie Parcell
#3.Do you think that race was a factor in getting hired or finding an apartment for Morgan and Alex? What about the fact they had no children?
In my opinion, I think that for Morgan and Alex it was easier for them to get a job and an apartment because they are white. They were not questioned about their trust or responsibilities. The landlord even let them pay half of their payment at the start because he trusted them to pay the rest. I think that Alex and Morgan would have had a much harder time if they were of color because it would have taken them a longer time to find an apartment and get a job. People would not have just let them slide under the radar. They would have been questioned and looked up. They also would have had a much harder time if they had children. The landlord was more apt to let them rent because it was just the two of them.
#9. Why do you think that Alex became so emotional about the services that were given to her and Morgan at The Free Store?
I think that Alex became so emotional about the services that were given to her and Morgan at The Free Store because she was in a situation where she couldn't pay for any accessories. She was so used to living with a man who has a 10 million dollar net worth and could have anything she wanted. But then she lived with so little and had to eat dinner on the floor with the ants. By day four she got so stressed that when The Free Store offered her actual furniture she broke down and started crying. She was grateful that there are these resources for people who can't afford these necessities.

I really agree with the idea that it was easier for them to get an apartment due to white priveledge. I didn't really think about it while I was watching the movie, but now that you mentioned it, it seems like a pretty viable explanation for how easy it was for them to get the apartment, despite how run-down it was. -vivi
